Freezer Repair

Rising Fawn, Lookout Mountain and the Chattanooga area — one technician, start to finish.

What a freezer service usually involves

Freezer calls come with a clock on them, because there is usually food inside. Most of them come down to a handful of failures: it runs constantly but never gets cold, it has frosted over to where the lid or the door will not seal, the food is soft on top and solid underneath, water is pooling under the cabinet, or the unit has gone quiet altogether. Upright and chest models tend to fail in different places, so the first thing I do is work out which problem you actually have instead of starting to replace parts.

My goal here is the same one I bring to every call: find the cause, explain it in plain English, and let you decide what to do about it. Freezers are worth being especially straight about, because a new chest freezer does not cost much and there are repairs that cost more than the machine is worth. I will tell you which side of that line yours falls on before any work is authorized. Some repairs are finished on the first visit and others need a part ordered, and if yours is the second kind I will tell you what that means for the food in the meantime.

I work on most common household brands — Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, Frigidaire, Electrolux and GE. I do not take on commercial, RV or medical-grade freezers, or the Amazon store brands such as Midea, Hisense, Summit, Equator, Forno, Insignia, Hamilton Beach and Black & Decker. If a freezer is not worth what the repair would cost, I will say so — that conversation may cost me the job, but it is still the right one to have.
